Tunnel Vision

1988 51st Street/Lexington Avenue-53rd Street (6,E,V) New York City Transit
Installed in the 51st Street underpass from 1988 until 2016, this 1,000 square-foot installation was comprised of an expansive ceramic relief architectural frieze (red, black, and white handmade tiles inspired by the New York City skyline), column-like forms appearing as pillars supporting the ceiling, and a series of bright blue marbleized tiles in the form of lightning bolts or cracks designed to offer a glimpse into a watery realm.
