Emilio Perez’s "Fluxus/Rhythmus," located at the 18 Av station on the Sea Beach Line, is composed of abstracted and stylized colorful forms that are inspired by movement, spontaneity, and the expressiveness of paintbrush strokes. Perez created his textured paintings by carving away paint from the surface to build swirling forms that dance in front of the viewer.
The vibrancy of Perez’s distinctive painting style and imagery was translated into 22 glass mosaic panels by Mosaicos Venecianos de México for the 18 Av station. Perez captures the energy of the station’s location and its people through the use of bright colors and the movement of painterly forms. The artwork reflects the flow of the transit system as a living organism, and inspires travelers in continuous motion.
