CROSSCUT

Mount Vernon 6th Avenue Bridge (New Haven Line)
Metro-North Railroad
"CROSSCUT" is an interactive artwork for the 6th Avenue Bridge by Josué Guarionex that unites those passing by with the universal language of music. The artist was inspired by the history of Mount Vernon and its familiar story of changing communities to imagine an artwork that brings together many types of people in a shared experience. Fabricated by KC Fabrications, polished aluminum bars based on the train tracks running below crisscross and create a dynamic visual rhythm. Geometric forms derived from the percussion instruments of various cultures are interspersed in the open space and invite the community to play by hand.
"CROSSCUT" provides a meeting point to bring together parts of the city where friendships can be forged through familiar sounds and music while passing from one side of Mount Vernon to the other.
